OECI Retrofit Skills Survey
Introduction
Thank you for taking the time to complete this Retrofit Skills Survey which is being conducted by the Ottawa Energy Collective. Your feedback helps focus program development toward the areas of most need and interest for the Ottawa residential retrofit sector. Please consider the Ottawa region and surrounding area when answering these questions.
To reach zero emissions, the City of Ottawa estimates that 27% of existing residential buildings must be deep retrofit (70% heating savings and 30% electrical savings) by 2030. By 2040, 98%, or 327,000 single family units, need to be deep retrofit. (Source: Better Homes Loan Program Feasibility Study, City of Ottawa)
For the purposes of this survey, a ‘deep retrofit’ is defined as achieving a 60-90% reduction in total energy use.
The Ottawa Energy Collective exists as a collaboration between many environmental nonprofits in Ottawa. Our mandate is to achieve net-zero emissions from all residential buildings in Ottawa by 2050. The collective's main points of focus are deep energy retrofits, new building standards, social finance for retrofits, stakeholder engagement, and getting ahead of gaps in the green building industry that might hold back efforts to scale across the city.
